I have set up a personal account in LibraryThing and I have had a look at how other libraries are using it. I can see how it useful it can be for cataloguing a discrete collection of books on a particular subject and promoting these books to library users. We could only really contemplate doing this in our library if it didnt involve any extra cataloguing but easy selection and exporting of records from our catalogue.
I dont have any ambition to catalogue my own personal library but can see a use for LibraryThing to share information with members of my Book Group. I will look into setting up a separate collection in LibraryThing where I can keep details of what we have been reading and what we would like to read in the future. I have input records for a few of the books we have read recently and the "recommendations" listed by LibraryThing are already looking interesting...
